The Association for Design Professionals - Northern Pacific Chapter

INawards 2005

The third annual IIDA INawards was held on Tuesday, October 25th at The Premier in Seattle’s SODO district. This was another signature event for the Northern Pacific Chapter. We celebrated excellence and innovation in interior design, engaging our design community in a meaningful dialogue, and created a link for the next generation of designers at this outstanding event. The INawards committee secured a state of the art venue for this annual event, able to accommodate a larger audience than ever before. In addition, a world-renowned jury was secured for the INawards, moderated by Cindy Allen, Editor in Chief of Interior Design Magazine.

2005 JURY LIST

Cindy Allen, Editor-in-Chief, Moderator
Cindy Allen has been with Interior Design magazine since 1996 and was named Editor-in-Chief in 2001. Since her editorship, the magazine has boasted increased circulation, and has won numerous design awards. A self-proclaimed design junkie, Ms. Allen brings an unbridled passion for design to the pages of the magazine each month, offering a unique view into design and personal connections to the leaders in the industry. Ms. Allen hosts various panels and speaking engagements throughout the country and at key events. She holds a B.S. in Communications and Business from St. John's University from where she graduated Cum Laude

Clodagh, Juror
Internationally renowned, Irish-born designer Clodagh creates environments as “art to live in”. She began her career in the fashion industry in Ireland later transitioning into interior and architectural design. Today Clodagh Design employs over 20 design professionals and has completed major projects worldwide. Widely published, Clodagh has earned some of the industry’s most coveted awards including being named one of the “Top 100 Interior Designers in America” by Interior Design. Clodagh has been inducted into Interior Design's Hall of Fame and Hospitality Design’s prestigious Platinum Circle. Her bestselling book Total Design is in its 3rd reprint.

Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, Juror
Cuban born Orlando Diaz-Azcuy is one of America’s most respected designers known for elegant, disciplined and intelligent work of innovative economy. Mr. Diaz-Azcuy has to his credit many prestigious corporate and residential projects as well as being an award winning product designer. In 1987 he founded his own firm in San Francisco, adding a New York office in 2001. Widely published, he has earned many awards including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from University of California, Berkley. He has also received an Honorary Doctorate from International Fine Arts College in Miami and teaches at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design summer session.

Sherri Donghia, Juror
Sherri Donghia joined Donghia Furniture/Textiles Ltd. in 1987, after a unique career in the international fashion world. As Executive Vice President of Design and Marketing, she provides focused design direction for the Donghia companies. A renowned textile editor, Ms. Donghia has won numerous awards including the prestigious Master of Linen award and the Chicago Athenaeum’s Good Design Award for four years running (2001-2004) for outstanding product design. In addition, Ms. Donghia guest lectures, chairs the interiors committee of the Color Association of the U.S. (CAUS), and is on the board of Aid-to-Artisans (ATA) as well as Fashion Group International ( FGI).

The IIDA Northern Pacific Chapter encourages project entries from all states within our Chapter (Alaska, Idaho, Washington, and the Canadian Territories of Alberta and British Columbia). Our goal is to engage a diverse audience and inspire stimulating dialogue. Member and non-member firms, interior designers, architects, and industrial designers are all encouraged to enter.

AWARD CATEGORIES

DESIGN IN MASS

Category includes all Commercial, Institutional, Education, and Government projects. No restrictions on square footage.

DESIGN IN HOME

Category includes private single family residences and multi-family residences. No restrictions on square footage.

DESIGN IN HEALTHCARE

Category includes Hospitals, Clinics, and Assisted Living. No restrictions on square footage.

DESIGN IN HOSPITALITY

Category includes Hotels, Spas, Resorts, Restaurants, and Retail. No restrictions on square footage.

DESIGN IN CONCEPT

Category includes un-built architectural interior projects, student work, and conceptual or realized product design.

All entries will be judged on criteria such as:

  • Social consciousness of the project
  • Transformational aspects of the project
  • Design and details of the project
  • Designers use of sustainable materials and products

In addition to the awards listed above, and as a compliment to celebrating the designs of fellow professionals, the awards presentation will conclude with the announcement of the INawards05 Honor Award. This tribute will honor the achievements of a design professional within our Chapter that embodies the characteristics of the awards we present – forward thinking, innovative designs, and a conscientious spirit. Previous years Honor Award recipients have included the late Jean Jungeward (2003) and Terry Hunziker (2004).
