Norella Carboni Amiel graduated cum laude from Woodbury University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture. Her formative years split between Costa Rica and Southern California have deeply influenced her design ethos, blending natural inspiration with urban sensibilities.

With a decade-long tenure at Omgivning Interior Designers and Architects, Norella honed her skills as Director of Design, co-leading the Interior Architecture department. During her tenure, she brought a meticulous attention to detail and a focus on wellness to the vibrant spaces of downtown Los Angeles.

Building on this foundation, Norella has co-founded two esteemed studios NONI Design House, an architecture and interior design studio & Base Collaborative, specializing in custom furniture and metal fabrication. Both studios curate transformative environments that elevate daily life through creativity and functionality.

As a tenured instructor at Bellevue College, a unique, diverse, and open-access institution where we provide students from all walks of life an equitable opportunity to further their education and career, I represent and have a unique point of view within our department through my professional and civic engagement. I have worked in the industry for 12 years before making the transition into design education and have worked on major retail (Nordstrom), residential (private), and aviation (Boeing/airline clients) architecture, industrial, and interior design projects. Early in my design career, I learned the value in creating change within my civic and design communities. I believe in community driven change, and I remain committed in celebrating my background, culture, and community while developing and maintaining professional relationships. Currently, and in the past, to manifest change, I have participated and served as a board member on many design and non-profit organizations promoting diversity and equity within livable communities, creating awareness, cultural inspiration, and supporting civic change, which have allowed me to create opportunities for students and fellow colleagues.

I wear many hats: professor, mentor, advisor, project manager, creative director, & design therapist. With a mission to serve, support design students, bringing a sense of rigor, connection to the industry, and purpose to the classroom, I am a committed instructor that cares about design, the industry, and how to inspire students. I believe in fostering community, representation and identity while supporting those values through: CONNECTION, MENTORING, & INSPIRATION.
