IIDA x SDF - Seattle Design Festival 2021

This year’s theme, “Emerge," seeks to inspire action, addressing consequences of the pandemic to nurture new possibilities.

Our SDF committee was inspired by the Japanese celebration of Tanabata. This is a celebration that occurs every year in Japan, where people of all ages celebrate and come together by making a wish on a colorful piece of paper and tying it onto a tree. Our pop-up installation, titled “Set it Free,” builds upon this same idea: coming together with neighbors, with the freedom to share your thoughts and feelings, capturing the moment, reading the wishes that others have left and looking toward the future as we emerge from our homes and back into our community. We encourage you to join us in this phase of emergence and share in on the celebration.
