Continuing Education Units
What is a CEU (Continuing Education Unit)?
A CEU is a measurement of contact hours and credit assigned to an approved course. For example: One contact hour equals 0.1 CEU.
The continuing education requirement for IIDA Professional and Associate Members is 1.0 CEU (10 hours) every two years. The current IIDA compliance period is January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2008. This CEU requirement applies only to those who became Professional or Associate Members prior to January 1, 2004. In addition to IDCEC approved CEU programs, IIDA Members may receive CEU credit for certain programs which were not previously approved by the IDCEC (Interior Design Continuing Education Council) Review Board. To have such courses reviewed for credit through IIDA, mail the IARF and all required materials to IIDA upon completion of the course.
IIDA’s compliance requirements are independent from individual state licensing continuing education requirements. Some, but not all, courses may qualify for both IIDA and your state continuing education requirements. Please check with your state board of licensing to verify continuing education policies and procedures. For more information regarding Washington State licensing please visit IDCWashington (The Interior Design Coalition of Washington) at www.idcwashington.org.
CEU credits are registered through NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification - www.ncidq.org) the official clearinghouse for all professional interior design organizations offering CEU courses. Attendees may register credits on site if the course is an IDCEC approved course, or register the credits through the IIDA Education Department via the Individual Approval Reporting Form (IARF) if the course is not pre-approved. Be aware that submission of the IARF does not guarantee approval and that the IARF is unique to IIDA as a member benefit to procure CEU credit for compliance. CEUs earned via the IARF may not qualify for state licensing requirements, since the course is not IDCEC approved. Therefore, IIDA recommends contacting your state licensing board regarding state submission policies and HSW qualifications.
