The Government Forum enhances the quality of interior design in public and government facilities (at the federal, state, city and local levels) through professional advocacy, member services, and member interaction. Typically, a government designer works for the government in-house as a facility planner and designer, or may be a private interior designer working under contract for the government. The Government Forum provides a venue for discussion and exchange of knowledge related to government design.

This elite group, the Hospitality Forum, provides a venue for discussion, development and dissemination of knowledge specific to the hospitality industry. This Forum gathers its Forum members to develop the exchange of information and ideas among design professionals, as well as promote the importance of retaining knowledgeable, experienced, professional interior designers.

The Institutional Forum works as a group to enhance the quality, health, and welfare of interior design in facilities which represent an established organization of a public character. These project types are both publicly and privately funded projects (other than those represented by the government). Forum members come together in person and virally to discuss and share information leading to the enhancement of the quality of interior spaces and protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. A stellar initiative of the Institutional Forum is the biannual Library Interiors Awards in partnership with the American Library Association.

The Knowledge Forum gathers to promote education, awareness and the value of good design through excellence in undergraduate, graduate, continuing education and professional development initiatives. The Forum provides a venue for discussion and dissemination of knowledge related to all areas of interior design with a focus on the practice and evaluation of design solutions. This group is a link between academia and practitioners through collaborative efforts among interior design educators, researchers, practitioners and industry members. Educators and researchers are encouraged to consider the Knowledge Forum their home. The IIDA Knowledge Center is a key partner in the Knowledge Forum's work.

The Sustainability Advisor position was created to facilitate increased collaboration among existing IIDA Forums. IIDA is committed to enhancing the quality of life through excellence in interior design and advancing interior design through knowledge. To that end, issues of sustainability and green design are no exception. The Sustainability Advisor seeks to keep individuals apprised of current events, projects and research concerning this important and growing arena within the interior design profession.
