GreenWorld® 2001

The third annual GreenWorld™ Universal Forum was held Thursday, May 17, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Seattle Town Hall at 1119 Eighth Avenue. Organized by the Washington State Chapter of IIDA, GreenWorld™ 2001 was again a successful event that brought the community together to learn about the positive impact sustainable design can have on our fragile planet. From Vancouver, British Columbia to Portland, Oregon, over 250 people met in Seattle to take part in this one-day forum.

To provide comprehensive information concerning sustainable building resources, the program featured an interactive panel discussion entitled "Greenwashing: When Green Isn't Green" moderated by Neil Frankel, AIA, FIIDA. Panelists included Penny S. Bonda, Gail Vittori, Michael L. Italiano, and Lawrence W. Umstadter.

A product exhibit took place following the panel discussion. Selected manufacturers collaborated with local designers to create exhibits that would present the sustainable production processes and practices of the selected products. The winners of the GreenWorld™ 2001 exhibit competition were as follows:

Product Exhibit First Place - Dupont Flooring Systems

Product Exhibit Second Place - Shaw Contract

Sustainable Product Award - DesignTex

The GreenWorld™ 2001 program concluded with presentations by two of today's leading environmental experts and authors. L. Hunter Lovins presented "Natural Capitalism," followed by keynote speaker Janine M. Benyus, who discussed "The Lotus and the Peacock: Learning from Life's Genius."
