GreenWorld® 1999
Wins Double Honorable Mention

The Washington State Chapter was awarded two honorable mentions for GreenWorld ’99 at the IIDA Annual Meeting. The meeting was held at the Contemporary Art Museum in Chicago, Illinois on June 12, 2000. The two awards were for Educational Program and Program Graphics. The graphics package for GreenWorld ’99 will also be published in the book: Graphics 2K. Thank you to Roddy Grant, a graphic designer at NBBJ, for the winning graphic design and the constant attention given to sustainable elements of the design, materials and printing processes.

SPEAKERS AND PRESENTATIONS

Keynote Speaker, Ray Anderson
Chairman and CEO, Interface Inc., Co-Chair US President’s Council for Sustainability and author of Mid-Course Correction, the Eco-Odyssey and Face-it. Ray Anderson believes we are long overdue for "the next industrial revolution". Using a geologic perspective, and examples from his own company, he demonstrates the ecological shortcomings of the first industrial revolution.

Stuart Cowan – Natural Step
Principal of Sustainable Systems Design, co author of Ecological Design, Stuart combines sustainability, living systems and the fifteen billion year epic of the unfolding universe. Participants will learn how the Natural Step derives fundamental conditions for maintaining the health of the planet from basic scientific principles.

Connie Grenz – Journey to Sustainability
Director of Strategic Management Services at The Collins Pine Company. Collins Pine is a Natural Step company, from the management of forests through to manufacturing. Connie will tell of their "Journey to Sustainability", recounting their accomplishments, challenges and results after one year.

Design Resource Institute
IIDA will preview a select group of designs from the collection of the Design Resource Institute, which produces the annual International Design Resource Awards Competitions. These Awards are given to outstanding designs that show new uses for recycled content or sustainable materials as well as ecological design strategies.

Sustainable Product Show
An all day Product Show will focus on interior finishes that respond to environmental concerns.

Mad Science Seattle
Families will enjoy the "hoop it Up for Mother Earth Booth". At this interactive recycle booth, everyone scores by learning how to reduce, reuse and recycle in their giant Mad Science Recycle Hoops.
